The BMW E90 325i is a great and no so great car at the same time. It is very comfortable on long trips but the ride is a little on the firm side. Fuel economy around town is nothing special but on the open road it is pretty amazing, usually averaging 6.5L/100KM. The Engine is quite torquey and is very pleasurable to drive around town and on the open road because of this. The ZF 6 Speed Automatic has to be one of the best automatics ever built. Incredibly smart transmission and always in the right gear. I bought this car used and do all my own maintenance. I think you would have to be insane to pay for it new as it definitely isn't an 80K car as it sticker price suggests and you would have to really hate money to own any European car in general out of warranty and not do your own maintenance. Parts prices are absolutely insane from the dealerships it's almost as if they don't want your business. For example wiper blades are $150. Need I say more ? The independent specialists are about 1/2-3/4 of dealership prices but it will still cost you a bundle to own these cars. There are a lot of people out there who claim that their car didn't cost them nothing more then a regular car to own, but believe me those people are in the minority and ignore a lot of problems that need addressing. Equipment in the car seems to be pretty decent, but when you remember how much this thing cost new, you feel like it really should have had a lot more. For 80K you don't get sat nav, xenon headlights or even a good sound system, they were all optional. The car is put together really well and with the right maintenance will definitely last for a very long time, it is still a pleasure to drive even though it is 8 years old and has 160,000 KM's on the clock, really feels as if it's new. There are some questionable plastics in the interior which scratch easily but apart from that everything else is high quality and will last. I also believe that Mercedes makes a more durable product and will be most likely switching back when I'm done with this car. My number 1 tip though. Always buy the last year of the car your interested in, usually a lot of problems are solved by then.
